Vauxhall has announced that the New Frontera Electric and New Frontera Hybrid will both be available at the same list price, eliminating the price disparity that usually exists between electric and petrol versions of the same car for the first time in the UK car market.
The average list price difference across the market between an electric and petrol car is currently 31% - but with New Frontera, electric and petrol hybrid versions will both start from £23,495 OTR when orders open in Autumn.
James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said:
“Vauxhall is leading the way in democratising access to electric vehicles, whether through our Electric Streets campaign to accelerate on-street charging infrastructure, our latest PCP offers with equivalent monthly payments between electric and petrol models, or our affordable new special editions - the Corsa Electric YES Edition, Mokka Electric Griffin and Astra Electric Griffin. With the launch of the New Frontera, Vauxhall has eliminated the list price premium that often applies to electric vehicles, with both electric and petrol hybrid versions offered for an identical list price. At just £23,495, New Frontera Electric is a significant milestone in our mission to make electric mobility accessible for everyone across the UK.”
New Frontera adopts a rugged interpretation of Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure design philosophy. The front-end bears Vauxhall’s distinctive Vizor, which seamlessly integrates with the signature LED headlamps. Prominent wheel arches and sills as well as the eye-catching C-pillar design underline the robust character. Measuring 4,380mm in length, the Frontera sits between the Mokka (4,151mm) and All-New Grandland (4,650mm) in Vauxhall’s refreshed SUV line-up. Despite measuring the same length as an Astra hatchback, New Frontera offers greater boot capacity with the rear seats down than an Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres).
New Frontera will be available from launch with a choice of two trim levels. Entry-level Design models offer 16-inch black steel wheels with wheel arch cladding and automatic headlights and wipers, along with stylish black grained bumpers. Customers can also choose an optional white roof that comes with 16-inch white steel wheels.
GS models come with aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers and a silver skid plate. GS variants also feature a black roof with tinted rear windows and LED taillights, along with power folding mirrors.
Interior
The modern design is continued in the spacious and comfortable interior. The Pure Panel cockpit features a newly designed steering wheel and two 10-inch widescreens, along with physical buttons for key functions for a practical, driver-friendly experience. Satellite navigation is included as standard, as are wireless Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™ and wireless smartphone charging.
New Frontera sets the benchmark for optimisation of its interior space. Clever storage solutions, 60:40 split second-row seats and a two-level boot floor means that the Frontera has a similar footprint to an Astra hatchback, but offers a larger boot capacity with the rear seats folded than an Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres). With the rear seats up, the boot capacity is 460 litres.
Design models come with a suite of driver assistance features as standard, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera, cruise control with speed limiter, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert.
On top of the generous Design specification, GS models offer electronic climate control and Intelli-Seat front seats with a specific cushion design incorporating a slot that relieves pressure on the tailbone. GS models also come with front parking sensors to provide further peace of mind when manoeuvring, as well as blind spot alert and an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror. Hybrid GS models offer an optional seven-seat configuration with two-way adjustable headrests and a ‘fold and tumble’ seat mechanism that provides easy access to the third row.
Further to the features offered on GS models, the optional Comfort Pack provides extra convenience with heated seats, a heated windscreen and a heated steering wheel, as well as roof rails with a 240kg load capacity.
New Frontera is available either as a petrol hybrid with 48-volt technology or with a smooth, fully electric powertrain. New Frontera Hybrid combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 21kW (28hp) electric motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, providing significant CO2 savings compared to an equivalent petrol engine.
The hybrid powertrain is available with either a 100hp engine developing 205Nm of torque, or a 136hp engine developing 230Nm of torque. The electric motor contributes to stronger acceleration at low engine speeds, with the 100hp model going from 0-62mph in 11 seconds and the 136PS engine taking just nine seconds. Top speed is 112mph and 118mph respectively, while both engines produce 120g/km of CO2.*
Alternatively, and for the same list price as the petrol hybrid, New Frontera is available with an efficient 113hp electric motor, based on the new Stellantis ‘Smart Car’ BEV-native platform. With a range of 186 miles (WLTP provisional) from the 44kWh battery, New Frontera Electric provides optimal comfort and zero-emissions-in-use driving for the same price as the hybrid version. From a 100kW rapid charger, the new Frontera Electric can be charged from 20-80% in just 26 minutes. The Frontera Electric accelerates from 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 87mph.*
From next year, Frontera Electric will also be available as a ‘Long Range’ version capable of up to 248 miles on a single charge (WLTP provisional).
Plug & Go, powered by Free2move Charge
In addition to list price parity between electric and petrol hybrid models, Vauxhall’s Plug & Go offer, powered by Free2move Charge, makes switching to electric even more accessible. Free2move Charge is part of the Free2move brand and broader Stellantis group, offering innovative mobility solutions. In partnership with Octopus Energy, Free2move Charge provides flexible and cutting-edge charging solutions, allowing customers to charge their vehicle wherever and whenever they need.
To simplify home charging, customers can choose a free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox and installation when buying online. This includes access to Intelligent Octopus Go, an energy tariff specifically for EV drivers, that charges your car when it is cheapest and greenest to do so and guarantees a fixed six-hour window to charge at the cheapest rates overnight too. Vauxhall customers can connect to Intelligent Octopus Go via the Octopus Energy app and tell Octopus how much to charge their vehicle by, with Octopus automatically scheduling the charge for when energy is cheapest and greenest.
Thanks to Vauxhall’s partnership with Tesco, customers also have the option to choose one year's free charging credit at stores across the country1, in lieu of the free wallbox. On top of this, customers can collect 50,000 Tesco Clubcard points when they purchase a new car through a Vauxhall retailer2. Shoppers can exchange the 50,000 Clubcard points for £500 in Clubcard vouchers to be used in store, or get 2x their value with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners, giving them £1,000 of value.
To make public charging easier, all new Vauxhall electric vehicle customers also receive an Octopus Electroverse card, giving access to over 750,000 public chargers from different networks across the UK and Europe via a single account. In lieu of the free wallbox or free charging at Tesco stores, customers can choose a £675 credit with Octopus Electroverse through Plug & Go.
For added peace of mind, Plug & Go includes a battery warranty for eight years/100,000 miles and three years of roadside assistance as standard.
